QA Junior Engineer – Web and Mobile Applications

This role analyzes and tests software features as part of a collaborative team.  This role is responsible for creating test cases in partnership with developers, business analysts and project managers which are used to shape and verify code and check conformance to system requirements.  The role relies upon hands-on use of test automation and manual testing tools. This role is expected to create test cases and perform testing independently with occasional assistance and reports to a senior staff member.


Understand and analyze Business, Functional, Technical and UI (User Interface) requirements for relevance, completeness, & testability with assistance from senior staff
Independently create test scenarios, test conditions & expected results for testing web and mobile applications
Independently run and maintain automated test scripts
Independently create required test data and maintain common test data sheet for the project
Independently execute test scripts and document test results
Independently log defects and verify defect fixes
Inform senior staff on any issues that could potentially impact project quality, schedule or budget
Assists in test environment setup/teardown, test automation, and exploratory testing
Assists in maintaining test data and test documentation
Work with various team members in resolving bugs and issues identified during testing
Assist with defining the test strategy to adjust for new information, changing risks, shifting priorities, and schedules
Assist in coaching junior staff, by helping them to make decisions, solve problems, manage meetings and set goals, provides feedback on testing-related tasks, delegates and assigns testing responsibilities

The ideal candidate for the position should have the following skills and experience:

Some experience in testing various applications, services and user interfaces
Experience working with a defect management systems
Strong knowledge of software quality assurance best practices & methodologies
Understanding of software development lifecycle and best practices
Understanding of Agile and Waterfall processes
Understanding of?test?driven development
Understanding of user interface design

Personal Skills: 
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing regarding requirements availability, scenarios tested and regarding defects found during testing
Detail oriented, meticulous & methodical
Strong analytical skills and innovative problem solving skills in improving project quality
Ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly independently
Strong work ethic, reliability and consistency

Education and Work Experience: 
Advanced degree with emphasis in the following disciplines is preferred; IS Management, Computer Science, Commerce, or Business Administration.  This individual should have at least 1 year of experience in testing applications, services and user interfaces or equivalent combination of education and experience.
